JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Clinical Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Back Office
REPORTS TO: Clinical Supervisor
Job
Summary: Responsible for assisting the physician with patient care including taking vital signs when needed, obtaining history and chief complaint, scribing, assisting with biopsies and select surgery procedures, and providing other chair-side doctor assistance. May administer treatments ordered by the doctor. Other responsibilities include patient education on medication, treatment plans and what to expect after treatment or surgery, and completion of pathology and lab requisition documents.
Education and
Experience:
1. High school diploma; college degree preferred.
2. Experience in a medical office working as a medical assistant desired.
3. The ideal candidate will also have experience in the hospitality industry (sales and/or marketing) ideally in the health and wellness sector (i.e. spa, resorts or other business that offers cosmetic dermatologic services, etc.)
4. Experience with EMR desirable.

1. Excellent communication skills. Must be articulate and able to communicate effectively (written and orally) demonstrating excellent grammatical command of the English language.
2. Good understanding/knowledge of skin anatomy, and knowledge of medical skin care terminology.

Responsibilities:
1. Primary Duties
Prepares exam rooms according to scheduled procedure or anticipates physician's needs if non-scheduled procedure is likely, including all instrumentation.
Obtains signatures on all necessary informed consent documents.
Escorts patients to exam rooms in order of appointment times. Obtains short history and vital signs as required by patient's chief complaint. Obtains or updates medication list if necessary.
Assist the Physician with scribing making entries into the patient's medical record, and transcribing the Physician's orders.
Assists physician with biopsies and surgical procedures such as excisions, ED&C, cryo therapy, laser surgery, etc.
Authorize drug refills as directed; telephone prescriptions to pharmacies; call patients with test results.
Ensures that the patient understands the treatment plan, understands the proper use of their medications, and understands their responsibility for compliance with the treatment plan prior to leaving the office.
Escorts patients to front desk or other office locations as is appropriate.
Straightens and cleans exam rooms after patient visits, disposing of any contaminated supplies.
Completely and correctly fills out all required pathology and laboratory requisition documents for patients as required by physician. Provides clinical staff with all completed documents for data entry into the biopsy book.
Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications and always being interested in learning something new.
Enhances health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accompanying new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
2. Secondary Duties
Cleans and restocks all exam/treatment rooms, including cleaning sinks and equipment.
Performs all duties related to medical instrument cleaning and sterilization.
Checks that all equipment is where it belongs.
Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventative maintenance.
Notifies clinical staff of supplies needed to avoid shortages.
At the end of the day, turns off power to all equipment and covers equipment as needed.
Any and all other tasks and responsibilities which may be assigned from time to time.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
