Biological Science Technician (Wildlife)

The purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of Biological Science technical support functions. Technician work is typically associated with and supportive of a professional field; work may involve substantial elements of the work of the professional field, but requires less than full knowledge of the field involved. This position is intended to report to a Specialist or Resources Manager in the same or a related field. Performs biological activities and implements natural resource projects such as:
Set and bait traps for small to medium size carnivores, including canids Remove small carnivores from live-traps without anesthesia Collect sex, body condition and age data from trapped small carnivores Monitor wildlife using radio-telemetry techniques Collect radio-telemetry data in adverse weather conditions, in topographically difficult areas with steep hills and deep canyons Handle reptiles or amphibians caught during monitoring efforts Use spreadsheet and database programs such as Microsoft Excel and Access to input and store data from biological field studies Enter, store, retrieve, and display wildlife distribution data using ArcView geographic information software (GIS) Navigate with Global Positioning System (GPS) to locate pre-determined points All qualifications must be met by 11:

Experience:
At least one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal Service (can be obtained in the public or private sector) that included activities such as:
1. conducting wildlife inventory and monitoring activities for a variety of wildlife species; 2. Conducting field surveys in remote locations to document and assess animal presence, abundance, reproduction, management issues and population dynamics using established protocols and standard scientific equipment. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of four years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field of scientific or technical study, such as in biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to this position (i.e. wildlife management). You must submit a copy of your transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, six months of specialized experience (50% of the specialized experience) and three years of education above high school (50% of the education) would qualify an applicant for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e. beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study beyond the second year is equivalent to six months of specialized experience. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts and hours worked per week. Volunteer

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies. No additional credit is given for overtime. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
